There is absolutely no minimum balance requirement for a Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) account. It is designed as a Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) account.
An overdraft facility of up to ₹10,000 is available to one account per household (preferably the primary female member) after 6 months of satisfactory account operation. Up to ₹2,000 is available without any strict conditions. The upper age limit for this facility is 65 years.
All PMJDY account holders get a free RuPay debit card. For accounts opened after August 28, 2018, the inbuilt accidental insurance cover is ₹2 Lakh (₹1 Lakh for accounts opened prior). To claim the insurance, the RuPay card must have been used for a successful financial or non-financial transaction at least once in the 90 days preceding the accident.
Yes, PMJDY accounts are fully integrated with the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme. You can seamlessly receive subsidies, pensions, COVID relief funds, and MNREGA wages directly into your account.
